Herbal abortions have been around for centuries. If you are looking for ways to end your pregnancy in the privacy of your home, you will no doubt wonder about the possibility of using herbs. Herbs are not regulated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and therefore, their effectiveness and safety cannot be measured reliably. Starting in the 1300′s on up through the 1800′s possessing the knowledge of which herbs caused a woman to abort/miscarry became very dangerous, if discovered a woman would be accused of being a witch and tortured to death. Over time those who knew how to safely and effectively use these herbs were murdered or frightened into silence, terror which persisted for about 500 years.

Abortifacients are strong, powerful herbs and should be used only for short periods of time; they are hard on the body, they can stress the kidneys and liver and often they will make one feel ill. Anyone who has liver or kidney issues should not use the vast majority of these herbs, please read contradictions carefully, do your own research, and consult with a knowledgeable herbalist. Many of these herbs are toxic, and are not considered safe to use on a regular basis or for long periods of time. They should not be taken on a monthly basis for contraception. Remember, inducing miscarriage at home is not easy.

If you decide to take herbs or vitamins in an attempt to get your period started, you need to understand that doing so can cause complications if you choose to continue the pregnancy, and could also cause damage to the developing embryo. It is important that you be clear in what you are doing, that there be no doubts in your mind of any kind. You must be willing to follow through with the abortion clinic if your attempts do not succeed in accomplishing your goal. Its not worth the risk of damaging the child if you do not have the means or desire to follow through with the abortion clinic if your herbal attempt fails. Its not worth the risk.

There are two types of herbs that can have an effect on a developing pregnancy: emmenagogues and abortifacients. An emmenagogue is an herb which encourages your period to start. They usually work best if your period is just plain late – not due to a pregnancy. Some common emmenagogues include Parsley, Ginger, Yarrow, Feverfew, Rosemary, Sage, Queen Anne’s Lace Seeds, Black Cohosh, Mugwort, Juniper, Angelica, Savin, Rue, Asafetida, Celery Seed, and Birthwort. Most emmenagogues are not strong enough to cause an abortion; however, they can in some women. Abortifacient herbs can both cause an abortion and encourage your period to come. The herbs explained in detail below are abortifacient herbs.

Facing the facts, dealing with the consequences of our sexual activity. It is important to deal with it in a responsible way. Once you are pregnant, that’s it, you are pregnant. If you don’t want to be, well then, make your decision, to end the pregnancy, or go through with it. The choice is yours, and there are many options available. What is important, is that you make a decision that you are comfortable with. It is important to make the decision that is right for you. For some women, having an abortion is devastating, something that is regretted for the rest of their life. Whether you choose to have the child or not, whether you choose to give birth and keep it or give it up for adoption, you need to make whatever decision is right for you. If now is not the right time, but maybe in a year or two things might be different, why not ask the spirit of the child to return when you are ready. The spirit realm does not exist in time and space as we do, time to them does not exist. And I’m sure the spirit child would be more than happy to oblige. Communicate with the spirit; this also helps in the release of the current pregnancy.

The disease affects men and women of all ages, but it appears most frequently in women over the age of 50. Hypothyroidism is the underproduction of the thyroid hormone. This is a very common condition. Symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, overweight, painful prementstrual periods, muscle weakness, dry and scaly skin, a yellow-orange coloration in the skin (particularly on the palms), yellow bumps on the eyelids, hair loss ( including eyebrows), recurrent infections, constipation, depression, slow speech, and myxedema (drooping, swollen eyes). Taking these hormone replacements, along with constant monitoring by your doctor will last for the rest of your life. Holistic approaches are the alternative with one of the more popular methods being hypothyroidism herbal treatment. Herbs are known to have properties that help in successfully treating hypothyroidism.

A blood test is needed to confirm the diagnosis of an underactive thyroid gland, but does not necessarily tell you the cause. The patient’s clinical history and results of antibody screening tests and thyroid scans can help to determine the underlying cause.

Blood tests will measure the levels of TSH, the thyroid stimulating hormone, and T3 and T4, the thyroid hormones – as well as their interactions with each other.

The results of these tests will tell you where the problem lies – in the pituitary gland, where TSH is produced, the hypothalamus (which controls the pituitary gland) or in the thyroid gland itself. This will in turn help physicians to determine the correct management for you.

Another common herbal treatment for hypothyroidism is guggul (Commiphora mukul), a resin derived from the medicinal tree of the same name. Guggul has been suggested for treating many different medical conditions such as obesity, high cholesterol and hypothyroidism. Scientists believe that the herb stimulates thyroid function, although further research is required to understand how guggul performs this task. Taking 250 to 500 mg of standardized guggul extract three times a day is often recommended for treating underactive thyroid.

Several other herbs have also been used for natural thyroid treatment – some more successfully than others. Bladderwrack, for example, may help sufferers of the condition when it is caused by a deficiency of iodine. Kelp is another substance that can help in this situation, although most cases of the disease in developed countries are not the result of too little iodine. Black cohosh may help with symptoms of hypothyroidism, although it does not treat the condition.

Conventional treatment usually involves taking a synthetic or animal derived thyroid hormone medication on a daily basis. Levothyroxine is the most common conventional medication used to treat hypothyroidism and treatment is life-long.

Patients have to be aware that they understand their condition thoroughly and how to take and adjust their medication. The doctor will check TSH levels to determine the right dosage of levothyroxine. If the correct dosage is not administered side effects could occur, like heart palpitations, shakiness, an increased appetite and insomnia can occur.

If you suffer from heart disease, your doctor will probably start you on a smaller dosage and gradually increase it. Thyroid hormone levels should be monitored on a regular basis (approximately every 6 weeks) and TSH levels checked to determine whether the correct amount of thyroid replacement hormone is administered.

There are other treatment options that can also be explored and may well be more suited to you. These include alternative and natural remedies for hypothyroidism and are especially for those who want to avoid the side effects of prescription drugs.

There are a variety of natural therapies that can be included in the treatment plan for thyroid disorders. Natural remedies for hypothyroidism with herbal and homeopathic ingredients can help to promote steady hormone levels, as well as maintain and restore the health of the thyroid gland.

Another commonly used natural thyroid treatment is contrast hydrotherapy, or alternating applications of hot and cold water to the neck and throat. This treatment is believed to help stimulate the thyroid gland. For the best results, patients should apply a cloth soaked in hot water directly to the neck for three minutes, and then apply a cloth soaked in cold water to the same area for 1 minute. Repeating the process three times is considered a set, and most natural health practitioners recommend performing two to three sets daily.

Acupuncture performed by a qualified acupuncturist may also help correct an underactive thyroid. Although there is no scientific evidence to support this claim, many sufferers of the disease have found relief through acupuncture. Patients should consult an acupuncturist for more information on how the treatment can benefit their particular situation. In many cases, acupuncture makes an effective support treatment while taking herbs and seeing a doctor.

And a wonderful way to unlock the medicinal qualities of herbs is through teas. Make homemade herbal teas and herbal infusions using these clear instructions. Mixing your own herbs for tea, is as easy as choosing the scents that appeal to you and blending up your favorite choices. Not all herbs are suitable for making tea, so become informed on each particular herb before ingesting a tea made from it.

The steps involved in making both enjoyable beverages and medicinal teas are pretty much the same. The major difference is that when making medicinal teas, more attention should be paid to covering the water pot as much as possible to entrap the beneficial properties of the herb. While the aroma of the tea is part of the enjoyment for making beverages, there should be no aroma when making teas for medicinal uses.

Many herbs lend themselves well as the main ingredients in medicinal teas. You can use a starter tea such as Green Tea (Camelia sinensis) and add herbs to it, or you can just use other herbs by themselves. For those who do not wish to have caffeine in their hot drink, decaffeinated Green Tea is available. The benefits of Green Tea are numerous and well-known, so this is an excellent option for many of us non-caffeine drinkers.

Flowery Notes-The basic blend includes flowery notes of some sort. I use violet flowers, chamomile flowers, dandelion petals, calendula petals or wild rose petals for this. Add one part of this herb.

Peppermint tea: Take four to five washed mint leaves (use six to eight if you’re making a pot), put in a cup of boiling hot water, and cover with either a mug cover or tiny plate to allow the mint leaves to infuse the water. Let the tea stand for about five to 10 minutes before drinking. You can either remove the leaves with a spoon or enjoy the tea with the leaves in the cup. Add a bit of honey or agave nectar for sweetness.

Place Holder-After adding the flowers (fresh or dried), I add the place holding flavor. To this, I mean the flavor that ties everything together and keeps my iced tea tasting strong enough to withstand a few ice cubes melting into it. Dried red raspberry leaves or dried nettles work well here. Add two parts of these herbs.

Ginger tea: Take a one-inch piece of peeled, thinly sliced fresh ginger. Put in a tea pot and pour in boiling water (enough to fill the pot until it’s almost full). Let the tea steep for about 15 minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey to your tea cup and pour in the ginger tea.

Fruity-Next, a fruity or naturally sweet component is nice. I use dried rosehips most often. These are sold in many herb shops or health food stores if you have not harvested your own. Another addition to this would be Hibiscus flowers. They are not only sweet and lemony flavored, they also impart a rich, red color to your teas. Add one part of these herbs.

Parsley tea: Parsley offers a plethora of health benefits, which is why I love making parsley tea. If you have parsley growing in your garden — even better! If not, buy a tiny batch from the grocery store and rinse it well when you get home. Fill the bottom of your tea cup with parsley leaves. Boil two cups of water and pour over the parsley. Similar to the peppermint tea, cover the cup with a plate to allow the parsley to infuse the water. If the water isn’t green when you take the plate off, then it needs to steep longer. Sip your parsley tea and enjoy!

It largely consists of natural medicines and produced ones, namely medicines made from herbal, animal, mineral, some chemical substance and biological substance. The discovery of herbal remedies is ascribed to legendary emperor Shen Nung (2696 BC). Shen Nung, said to be the father of Chinese agriculture and leader of an ancient clan, tasted hundreds of herbs to test the medicinal properties.

Dating back to the period around 22 century B.C. to 256 B.C (in which China was in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasty), there appeared alcohol medicine and soup medicine. A book, The Book of Songs (or Shi Jing) in the Zhou Dynasty (11 century B.C. to 771 B.C.), wrote something about medicine. This is the earliest existing book bearing records of ancient Chinese medicine. Another book, Nei Jing, which is the earliest existing book on Chinese medicine theory, proposed the theories like “cooling the patient if one had high temperature and vice versa”, “adding the five flavors into the medicine and one would feel bitter inside and have diarrhea. These formed the basis of Chinese medicine theory.

Stone and bone needles found in ancient tombs have made Joseph Needham speculate that acupuncture might have originated in the Shang dynasty. But most historians now make a distinction between medical lancing (or bloodletting) and acupuncture in the narrower sense of using metal needles to treat illnesses by stimulating specific points along circulation channels (“meridians”) in accordance with theories related to the circulation of I. The earliest evidence for acupuncture in this sense dates to the second or first century BCE.

In western civilizations, we use established knowledge to develop new techniques and approaches to medicine. Quite the reverse is true in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine. What is important to remember is that it seems the older the remedy, the more it is used and revered. Though improvements and new techniques became available, they were always built on the old ones and, if in doubt, the ancient ways were preferable.

The period during which the Nei Jing appeared was one of great creativity and change. By 265 BC (when some scholars believe the Nei Jing was published) the transition from a shamanistic medicine to one based on theory and an accumulated body of knowledge was almost complete. Although the Nei Jing was supposed to have been written 2500 years prior it almost exclusively discusses the medicine of theory and accumulated knowledge. So the 28 substances and 12 prescriptions listed in the Nei Jing are the first mention of the Chinese herbal medicine which continues to be practiced now.

The acquired knowledge about herbal medicine was passed on from generation to generation by word of mouth, since there were no written records at that time. The earliest Chinese writing dates back to late Shang dynasty (1200 BC). These writings are called Oracle Bone Inscriptions which were found at the site of the last Shang capital near present-day Anyang, Henan province. The ancient Chinese used these bones as records of their activities like hunting, warfare, weather, selection of auspicious days for ceremonies. Records of illnesses, medicines and treatment methods were also found inscribed in the Oracle Bone.

After the founding of New China in 1949, plenty of researches have been done in various fields such as botany, identification science, chemistry, pharmacology and clinical medicine. These researches provide scientific basis to identify the source and authenticity of herbal medicines as well as their function scheme. Later, a nationwide survey was done on the source of the medicine, which helped produced the book, Zhong Yao Zhi in 1961. In 1977, the book, Herbal Medicine Dictionary, was publicized, which brought the number of recorded herbal medicine to 5,767. In addition, reference books, treatise, newspaper and magazines on Chinese medicine were publicized. There also established institutions on scientific research, teaching and producing of Chinese medicine.

It is important to understand why TCHM has endured the passage of several thousand years. Though rich with formulas, it remains basic through the use of herbs. The application of TCHM starts with the assumption that the human body and nature are in tune with one another. When someone becomes ill, this balance is no longer in tune. The practitioner of TCHM then applies his formulae, to bring the body back in tune with nature.

“The symptoms are recognized as body language. The differentiation of body signs and symptoms, a practitioner of traditional Chinese Therapies can analyze the root cause of the condition. By harmonizing the body, mind and spirit, they are able to combat or prevent illness to improve the quality and duration of life.”

Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine is gaining popularity in the western world for two reasons: In many cases, it works. And it is also far less expensive which makes it available to a much larger group of people.

Herbal cigarettes (also called tobacco-free cigarettes or nicotine-free cigarettes) are cigarettes that do not contain any tobacco and which are composed of a mixture of various other herbs and/or other plant material. Herbal cigarettes are not safe to smoke. Some brands, particularly those made in China, contain tobacco and have high levels of tar and nicotine. Smoking, thus, has always been perceived as a harmful habit since it affects the consumer’s health negatively. The smoke from brands that have no tobacco or nicotine still deliver similar levels of tar and carbon monoxide compared to tobacco cigarettes. Herbal cigarettes are good options to opt for in this case. These are less harmful in comparison to the conventional smoking famously because they are totally free of tar, flame, tobacco, carcinogens, nicotine and ash which are the main ingredients in cigarettes.

Herbal Cigarette Ingredients
Herbal cigarettes commonly contain red clover which is a substitute for tobacco along with other herbs like rose petals, corn silk, cinnamon, menthol, jasmine, vanilla, mint, lemongrass, and ginseng. Rose petals are very often the main ingredient of these cigarettes since they produce a bearable, not-so-foul aroma which causes no harm. You might have heard about the usefulness of mint and lemongrass in creating a soothing effect on the throat, thus making them one of the essential ingredients in these cigarettes. Red clover has been used to cure bronchitis, cough and related problems since ages and thus benefits the smoker to a greater extent. Siberian ginseng, apart from being a natural cure to many broad spectrum diseases, is a filler in these type of cigarettes.

There are many herbal supplements that you should avoid. No matter of your attempts, controlling appetite is always difficult. To help you fight this temptation, you may want to try a herbal appetite suppressant which is 100% natural. Many of the plants, that are used for their production contain many biologically active substances, some of which are still unidentified, while others are known to be posinous or with unpleasent side effects. Natural appetite suppressants are dietary supplements that help control the appetite. Unlike appetite suppressant drugs that may have side effects, natural appetite suppressants are non-habit forming.

Weight loss medications are generally divided in two categories – fat binders and appetite suppressants. While there are only few available fat binders, appetite suppressants come of greater diversity. In fact the most approved weight loss pills are actually appetite suppressants and there are even more to come.

There are two main groups of appetite suppressants – prescription and herbal appetite suppressants. In recent years herbal appetite suppressants are gathering more and more attention as majority of people trying to lose weight want to use herbal and natural appetite suppressants rather than synthetic drugs that can have serious side effects on your body and health.

Ephedra is well known herbal appetite suppressant, that act as a stimulant. It is still used as a supplement for differenet conditions, like bronchial asthma. Its use as a appetite suprpessant for weight loss is banned by the FDA.

The reason is Ephedra has very short-term effect and in order to suppress appetite it has to be taken in very big doses. Such doses are very dangerous – there were even fatal cases reported. This was the reason FDA banned Ephedra-containing weight loss supplements.

Herbal appetite suppressant pills are dietary supplements made from different plants – herbs that help control the appetite. These herbs are also good for the heart and circulation, fast weight loss, lymphatic system, digestive health, for the skin, hair, nervous system, glandular system, respiratory health, urinary system and much more.

Guarana, taurine, caffeine and caffeine-containing products – an herbal remedies on weight loss, hat has caffeine substance, attributed to have a stimulating effect of the nervous system. As a weight loss product it is total waist of time and money, it can be easily replaced by coffee in great amounts. Also it has no appetite suppressing potential.

The anecdotal appetite suppressing properties of caffeine were attributed by the marketers, aiming to sell more and more of their products. They just add caffeine to ther “wonder remedies” because caffeine increase the vigilance and improves mood (in fact caffeine is narcotic, and the stimulating effect is preserved for your brain coffeeonly!), thus way people taking such supplements feel well.

Caffeine can be very dangerous stimulant, but it is “tamed” by our civilization. The benefits from caffeine are too exagarated, especially when it comes to appetite suppression. What is more likely is caffeine gives you nervousness, sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety and/or heart palpitations. Caffeine also has laxative effects, and those who become habituated to it may become constipated and experience headaches when they quit. There are also fatal cases from caffeine overconsumption. herbal appetite suppressant
MA HUANG (Ephedra sinensis) is another herbal stimulant. This plant contains ephedrine and pseudoephedrine which are used in over the counter medications for asthma (ephedrine) and as a nasal decongestant (pseudoephedrine). It has similar action to amphetamines and caffeine. Products containing ephedrine were banned by the FDA, because of its side effects.

Another stimulant herbal supplement is bitter orange extract. It contains synephrine, which is very similar to ephedrine and pseudoephedrine.

Bitter orange extract – The active ingredient in bitter orange extract is called synephrine, a stimulant that constricts the blood vessels, increases metabolic rate and heart rate. All that stimulant activity (and it’s often combined with caffeine in weight loss supplements) boosts its claim to help suppress the appetite.

Although anecdotal evidence abounds (such as testimonials on weight loss and bodybuilding Web sites), there is little science to back up bitter orange’s claims. And since products that contain the ingredient aren’t regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, companies aren’t required to have proof of success—or safety.

The chemical structure of synephrine is very similar to that of ephedra (or ephedrine), a popular weight loss stimulant that was banned by the FDA in 2004 after reports of heart attacks and strokes. And in a 2005 Mayo Clinic report, synephrine was also linked to potential for causing strokes.

Herbal Incense is a natural herb leaves that are crushed to be powder. When burned, this powder explores a sweet aroma that lasts for a long time. Herbal incense has gained many different names since its origination including spice, smoking blend, incense, legal smoke, and many names the maker names it themselves so you will find it called many different things. When one buys cheap herbal incense, find a note over the packet that it is “not for human consumption”. However, numerous people are inhaling herbal incense.

Herbal incense can come in much different potency depending on how pure the producer made it; hence it’s hard to tell the actual side effects sense no studies have been conducted. But, since I actually work for a head shop or smoke shop, I speak with many different people that smoke many different potencies and I have gotten a better understanding of why people smoke it, and how it affects them. This I am here to share with you all in the hopes for you to make your own decision on the matter.

Herbal incense is a generic name for products containing synthetic cannabinoids (most commonly JWH-108). It is called herbal incense to bypass laws prohibiting the advertising of smoking herbal incense ingredients and mixtures that have not been approved by the relevant authorities. Nobody uses it as incense.

Although synthetic cannabinoids were created back in the 1970s it is only since 2002 that they have been widely available to consumers. This means that, compared to other drugs such as marijuana, we do not have that much data on the effects of synthetic weed.

The effects of synthetic cannabinoids seem to vary greatly from individual to individual. e.g. some users say that effects last for no longer than 30 minutes, while others say that they can last for up to 5 hours.

Synthetic cannabinoids are so-called because their effects do, to a certain degree, mimic those of marijuana. This is because both marijuana and synthetic weed bind to the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the brain, which control such functions as short term memory and appetite. However, synthetic cannabinoids seem to have a much greater affinity for the CB1 receptors which accounts for its strong psychotropic properties. Some research has also shown that JWH-018, the most commonly used of these synthetic cannabinoids due to its apparent similarities to cannabis, is also far more potent than cannabis.

There are some fake products that are marketed as herbal incense but some young people are using it to get high. It is smoked to produce a high similar to marijuana. This drug is not available in the online shops but one can get it in local shops illegally. The shopkeeper doesn’t even care that the person who is buying herbal incense is mature or not. Many of the under aged people are found consuming herbal incense just to feel a “synthetic” high.

Skin tags are small tumors that are benign. They normally appear in areas where the skin creases, like the eyelids, under the breasts, underarms and neck. Skin Tags are just a soft, skin-colored growth that hangs from the surface of the skin. It is attached to your body by a thin piece of tissue called a stalk. Skin tags can be flesh colored or slightly darker, and they look like a small piece of hanging skin that are on average the size of a grain of rice. In some cases, skin tags can be much larger, growing to the size of a ping pong ball. Its medical name is “Acrochordon.” Removing skin tags is not a problem, but, insurance does not cover the costs of removing them. There are several removal methods available to you, some are painless, and some are not. Skin tags are soft and movable, and usually grow in places with skin folds, such as the armpit, groin, eyelids, neck, or under breasts. Skin tags are harmless and aren’t related to any kind of disease or illness. They can be caused by anything from pregnancy to heredity, and typically don’t need to be removed unless they’re being irritated by clothing or jewelry. Some people may also choose to remove them for cosmetic reasons.

Skin tags are a problem because the location of the skin tag may be irritated by the constant rubbing of clothing or jewelry. Skin tags appear most often on the neck – inside tiny folds. Other common locations are the armpits, beneath the breasts or in the genital region. They can also be located on places like the hands and face where they can be unsightly.

Although bothersome, skin tags are relatively easy to treat. Skin tags can be removed easily by doctors – but this procedure is considered cosmetic, and can be costly. Most health insurance plans don’t cover the removal of skin tags. In most cases, skin tags can be removed easily and painlessly at home. There are quite a few do-it-yourself removal kits on the market and while some of them contain harsh chemicals, others are completely natural. Herbal treatments for skin tags normally combine a variety of herbs and natural ingredients. Herbal treatments normally take a few days to start working, and the tag will fall off within a few days. If this does not happen, you may have to consult a doctor for removal.

Using garlic is another easy way to remove a skin tag. Mash a clove of garlic until it’s sticky and pulpy, and then apply it to the skin tag and cover it with a bandage, according to home remedies website FatFreeKitchen.com. Apply the mash at night and leave it on while you sleep. Do this nightly until the skin tag falls off.

Using bloodroot paste is a very effective way to remove a skin tag, but caution should be used because bloodroot juice is poisonous if ingested, according to Love to Know Skincare. It’s a woodland herb found in the north central United States and British Columbia, Canada. Make a paste with the root and apply it to the skin tag, then cover it with a bandage. Leave the bandage on until the skin tag falls off. Make sure to only apply the paste where it’s needed, because bloodroot can be damaging to healthy tissue, according to Love to Know Skincare. You also shouldn’t apply the paste to skin tabs that are on the eyelids, genitals, lips or nose, because of the risk of internal exposure. Pregnant women should avoid using bloodroot.

Derail, a powerful product that combines extracts from three plants, is considered to be a powerful skin tag treatment. Although natural, this treatment can be costly – ranging $29.99-$119 a bottle. This is not an economical option for those with one or two skin tags. If you have a few skin tags and they are recurring, Derail may be a good investment. Another natural herb that is used to treat skin tags is bloodroot. Although it is poisonous if ingested, bloodroot has proven to effectively treat some cases of skin tags. Take some bloodroot paste and apply it directly over the skin tag. Cover the affected area with a band aid and check frequently. In a few days, the tag should fall off. Castor oil and Tea tree oil are also effective. Soak a cotton ball in one or the other (don’t mix the two) and apply to the affected area 2-3 times a day. You may want to keep the area covered up with a band aid, but it is not required. With tea tree oil, you may experience a tingling sensation. This is normal. If the skin tag doesn’t fall off within a week, consult your doctor.

Skin Tags can be removed easily with Derma Tend. Here are the directions: To remove skin tags, carefully rub the skin tag with a pumice stone; backwards, forwards, and side to side for one minute, wash with soap and water, apply a bit of Derma tend Skin Tag Remover to the skin tag – and cover with a bandage overnight. Next morning, remove the bandage and expose the scabbed skin tag to air. The tag will fall off in just days.

According to the American Heart Association, nearly one in three adults in the United States has high blood pressure. But nearly one-third of those people don’t know they have high blood pressure, because it’s a silent disease. There are many different types of complementary and alternative treatments believed to be effective for treating high blood pressure (hypertension). These blood vessels become more rigid with age giving rise to blood vessels being more inclined to burst.

Alternative treatments are not as efficacious as they could be when it comes to hypertension, and diet and exercise are the key to keeping blood pressure low. The fact that you are no longer young and fit is the real problem, and we all inevitably develop hardening of the arteries known as “atherosclerosis”, which is the leading cause of high blood pressure.

Doctors recommend:

Eating more fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy foods

Cutting back on foods that are high in saturated fat, cholesterol, and total fat

Eating more whole grain products, fish, poultry, and nuts

Eating less red meat and sweets

Eating foods that are rich in magnesium, potassium, and calcium

Causes of High Blood Pressure

The greater your body mass, the more pressure there is on your artery walls. That’s because more blood is produced to supply oxygen and nutrients to tissues in your body.

Lack of physical activity tends to increase heart rate, which forces your heart to work harder with each contraction.

Chemicals in cigarettes and tobacco can damage artery walls.

Excessive sodium in the diet can result in fluid retention and high blood pressure, especially in people sensitive to sodium.

Low potassium can result in elevated sodium in cells, because the two balance one another.

    Stress can raise blood pressure.

Excessive alcohol intake can, over time, increase the risk of heart disease.

The risk of high blood pressure increases as you get older.

High blood pressure often runs in families

What can I do to help high blood pressure?
The good news is that about 80% of individuals fall into the borderline to moderate hypertension range and most cases can be brought under control very successfully by change in lifestyle, diet and taking natural remedies and herbal remedies that are known to help hypertension. These methods can often be superior to drugs in cases of borderline and moderate hypertension.

It is true to say that all drugs have side effects. Diuretic drugs and beta-blockers have side effects listed including increased risk of heart disease and most medical professionals will try and avoid giving these if they can unless the problem is persistent and doesn’t respond to lifestyle changes.

If you suffer from severe hypertension (160+/115+), drugs are indicated. However employing all the measures by eating a diet rich in nutrients can help tremendously in cases of moderate high blood pressure. It appears that when drug therapy is necessary ACE inhibitors or calcium channel blockers seem to be the safest options.
